Odoo is free in three ways: the Community edition, open source, that you host yourself; the One App Free offer, one online application for unlimited users; and the 15-day trial. As soon as a small business needs multiple hosted applications, it switches to a subscription, starting at €19.90 per user per month in the first year.
Nuprod, an Odoo Silver Partner integrator in Gironde, compares here what each free plan covers, its limits, and the actual cost of Community and Enterprise for a small business.

To remember
- Community : open source software under LGPLv3 license, free and with no user limits. Hosting, maintenance, upgrades, and support are your responsibility, and Enterprise applications (full accounting, Studio) are not included.
- One App Free : one application of your choice and its dependencies, unlimited users, hosting and support included on Odoo Online, with no time limit. From the second paid application, all users switch to the subscription.
- Free trial : 15 days, all applications, no credit card required.
- Standard Subscription : €19.90 then €24.90 per user per month, excluding taxes, billed annually. A Light User costs €7.90 since Odoo 20.
- Whatever your choice, budget for integration, training, and operation.
The three ways to use Odoo without paying for a license
Three free options, three needs: you can host a complete software yourself, use a single online application, or test before choosing.
Plan | What is free | Duration | Hosting | Main limit | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Community | The open source software and its applications, unlimited users | Unlimited | At your expense: your server or a host | No Enterprise applications, no official support, no Odoo Online or Odoo.sh | A company that has a technical team or an integrator to host and maintain |
One App Free | One application of your choice and its dependencies, unlimited users, hosting and support included | Unlimited | Odoo Online, included | One application: the second requires a subscription | A unique need: showcase site, invoicing or CRM |
Free trial | All applications | 15 days | Odoo Online | You must subscribe to continue beyond | Test Odoo before choosing |
The trial starts on odoo.com/trial, no credit card required.
Odoo Community: what is free, what is not
Odoo Community is free in terms of software: you download it, install it, and use it without a license, with as many users as you want. You pay the rest in time or services: server, backups, security, upgrades, and support.
Free in Community | Absent, or at your expense |
|---|---|
The source code, under LGPLv3 license | Complete accounting: Community stops at billing |
CRM, Sales, Purchases, Inventory, Billing | Studio, to customize screens without code |
Basic manufacturing, Project, Point of sale | Helpdesk, Planning, On-site services, Documents, Signature |
Website and online store | The official support of Odoo S.A. |
The free community modules | Odoo Online or Odoo.sh hosting, and the Odoo upgrade service |

The OCA community (Odoo Community Association) publishes free modules that fill some of these gaps, such as accounting reports, and a migration tool between versions, OpenUpgrade. You must choose, test, and maintain each module at each version, yourself or with a provider.
Odoo publishes the list of applications for each edition. To choose, start with the applications your business uses.
One App Free and the 15-day trial: the limits to know
One App Free: free as long as there is only one application
One App Free, called "One Free App" on the French version of odoo.com, provides one application of choice, along with the applications it depends on, for unlimited users. It is hosted on Odoo Online, including maintenance and support, with no time limit: Odoo displays it as "Free, with unlimited users, forever." With the Invoicing app, sending and receiving electronic invoices through Odoo's approved platform is included, at no cost per document. With the Website app, you can connect your own domain name.
Three limits to know:
- One paid application only. Installing a second application, Accounting alongside the Website or CRM alongside Sales, takes you out of the free plan. All users then switch to the subscription: for three people on the Standard plan, €59.70 per month for the first year. Be careful with functions that rely on another application: a quote created from the CRM goes through Sales, a contact form through Website.
- No advanced customization. No Studio, no specific development, no API connection.
- Odoo Online only. No Odoo.sh, no hosting on your server.
Before adding an application, test it on a copy of your database: Odoo charges as soon as it is activated.
The 15-day trial: enough to test a complete process
The trial opens all applications for 15 days, without a credit card. Use it to replay a real process, from quote to invoice for example, with some real data. After 15 days, you need to subscribe to continue.
Community or Enterprise: the real cost for an SME
For 5 users, the Enterprise Standard license costs €1,194 excluding taxes in the first year, then €1,494 per year. With Community, the license drops to zero: instead, you pay for hosting, maintenance, and technical time, to a host, your team, or an integrator.
Position | Community | Enterprise Standard, on Odoo Online |
|---|---|---|
License, 5 users | €0 | €1,194 in the first year, then €1,494 per year |
Hosting | A server or a host to pay for, backups and security to manage | Included |
Annual upgrade | Migration to be done by yourself, with OpenUpgrade, or by a provider | Upgrade provided by Odoo |
Support | Forums, community, or provider | Odoo support included, in addition to your integrator |
Applications missing from Community | Community modules or developments, to maintain | Included |
Integration and training | To budget | To budget |
Calculation excluding taxes, on annual billing, based on Odoo's October 2026 pricing. With Light Users at €7.90, the Enterprise license further decreases for field profiles: the details are in our article. How much does an Odoo project cost in 2026?
The calculation depends on your team. With an internal Odoo developer, Community can be justified. Without a technical team, each upgrade and each incident goes through a provider: get quotes for these items before comparing them to the €1,194 license.
Can we have a free Odoo website?
Yes, with One App Free: the Website app only, unlimited users, hosted on Odoo Online, with your own domain name. It is sufficient for a showcase site. Add the online store, CRM, or invoicing, and you switch to the subscription.
What the free version does not do:
- Sell online. E-commerce is a separate application from the Website.
- Track contact requests. Without CRM, forms arrive by email, with no pipeline to track them.
- Exit the visual editor. No Studio or specific development.
If your site needs to generate leads, connect it to the CRM and sales: that is the purpose of our Odoo Website guide.
Which plan for which business?
The free version is sufficient when the need fits within one application, or when the business has the technical skills to host Community. Beyond that, compare the subscription to the time it would take to compensate for what is missing.
Situation | Recommended plan |
|---|---|
A freelancer or a small business that only invoices | One App Free, Invoicing app, approved platform included |
An association or a small business that wants a showcase site | One App Free, Website app |
A medium-sized business with an internal Odoo developer | Community may be suitable, hosting and upgrades included in the calculation |
A medium-sized business of 5 to 50 people, multiple trades, without a technical team | Enterprise Standard, with Light Users for field profiles |
A project with developments, API connections or multiple companies | Custom Enterprise |
A hesitation between two options | The 15-day trial, then a scope audit |
And the other free ERPs?
Odoo is not the only open source ERP: Dolibarr, of French origin, and ERPNext are also free, with the same hosting and maintenance constraints. Compare them based on the coverage of your businesses and the network of providers around each. Nuprod is preparing a dedicated comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Is Odoo free?
Partially. The Community edition is free and open source, but you have to host and maintain it yourself. The One App Free offer provides one online application, with no time limit or user limit. For all applications, a subscription is required, starting at €19.90 per user per month.
What is the difference between Odoo Community and Odoo Enterprise?
Community is the open source software, free, to be hosted by yourself, without official support. Enterprise is the paid edition: it adds full accounting, Studio, and other applications, along with hosting, support, and Odoo upgrades.
Is One App Free free for life?
Yes, as long as the database uses only one application, with its dependencies. Odoo states it itself: "Free, with unlimited users, forever."
What happens if I add a second application?
The database exits the free plan and all its users switch to the subscription, on the Standard or Custom plan. Test the addition on a copy of the database before activating it.
Does Odoo Community do accounting?
Community manages invoicing, not full accounting, which is part of Enterprise. Free modules from the OCA community add accounting reports, to choose and maintain.
Can you switch from Community to Enterprise?
Yes. Odoo documents the transition from Community to Enterprise on the same version. Get assistance to check the community modules already installed.
Choosing between free and subscription
Odoo can cost nothing in licensing: an online application with One App Free, or all the software with Community if you host it. For a small business running multiple trades, compare the total cost: licensing, hosting, upgrades, support, integration, and training.
Nuprod, Odoo Silver Partner integrator in Gironde, helps you choose the plan and size the licenses, including Light Users. The free audit starts from your actual applications and your team.
